Community Standards

1) Be kind. iElmira.com is built as an alternative to the toxicity found on social media and as such, welcomes members of all walks of life and different viewpoints. That said, we understand that there will be times users disagree, which is not only normal, it's healthy in a free society. If you disagree with someone, by all means, make an intelligent and well thought out response to explain your viewpoint. Injecting national political party identity, for example, calling someone a "lib-tard" is completely unnecessary, particularly when it comes to local issues.

Actually, let's just refrain from national and national political news altogether. Keep it local.

In short, spirited debate is fine, however name calling and harassment are not, and will not be tolerated.

2) Don't be crass. We're all guilty of dropping an "f-bomb" now and then but try to keep the profanity to an absolute minimum, particularly when making public posts or comments.

3) No photos or posts "calling out" or publicly shaming someone due to some slight, whether real or perceived. If someone cuts you off in traffic, there's no need to take a pic and post it online. Just take a deep breath and move on with your day.

4) Do not make posts asking, "Where can I get ____." Google is your friend, use it.

5) No lost/missing/found pet posts. We know this may be unpopular with many, there's plenty of other places you can do that. ( If there becomes enough demand, we can form a page or group for that, but we'd like to keep it out of the main newsfeed. )

6) No posts seeking or offering free goods.

7) No rummage sale or "curb alert" posts.

8) iElmira.com does not allow promotion of local businesses or their events. As the site grows, we will consider selling ad space. Posting well made flyers for municipal events or and organization's fundraiser events is perfectly acceptable, however please limit the amount of posts for each event to just once. For example: Humane Society Bake Sale? Yes. "Wing Night" at Junior's Grill? No.

9) Register with your real name only. Obviously fake account names such as "Ben Jammin" will be marked as a SPAM or troll account and dealt with accordingly.

10) When in doubt, re-read rule #1.
